SINGAPORE’S DELEGATION RECEIVED BY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

Today, officials of Education Department, Chandigarh Administration led by Shri SK Setia, DPI (Schools), received a delegation of 34 students & teachers (29 students, 1 parent & 4 teachers) from Yishun Secondary School, Singapore. The delegation of Singapore is led by Vice Principal of Yishun Secondary School Mr. Apollos Induchoodan.


The India Post, Chandigarh, August 24: Today, officials of Education Department, Chandigarh Administration led by Shri SK Setia, DPI (Schools), received a delegation of 34 students & teachers (29 students, 1 parent & 4 teachers) from Yishun Secondary School, Singapore. The delegation of Singapore is led by Vice Principal of Yishun Secondary School Mr. Apollos Induchoodan.
Giving information about the initiative Mr. SK Setia informed that this educational exchange from Singapore is result of two such exchange programmes organized earlier by their Department in which students and teachers from Chandigarh visited Singapore, especially the Schools & Libraries of Singapore, to learn and expand their horizons. And Yishun Secondary School hosted their visit there, now, its’ for Chandigarhian’s to show their educational institutions, their city of gardens and Indian hospitality.

Mr. Setia, further said that during their three days of stay in Chandigarh, on first day Education department will organize an Interaction with local School Principals & Librarians at Govt. College for Girls, Sector 11, where Mr. Apollos in his presentation will share the TLLM (Teach Less Learn More) technique which they follow in Singapore and will also throw light on a ‘Read Singapore Campaign’, which inculcates reading habit amongst the generation next.

On second day at KB DAV-7, teachers from Singapore will be demonstrating IT lessons for teaching some topics which are common to both Singapore and Indian Math syllabi as well as a games approach to get weaker students interested in the topic on equations. In between elaborate arrangements are also made for cultural programmes like Bhangra show with 200 performers from KB DAV-7 and School visits to Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 16, KB DAV-7, The Gurukul & Manav Mangal School. Ample opportunity for sight-seeing and shopping are also in place.

Welcoming the move of Education Department Mrs. Madhu Bahl, Principal of KB DAV-7 and Regional Director of 11 DAV Schools said that with Mr. Setia’s effort a new vista is now opened for students & teachers from Chandigarh & Singapore. And DAV Schools will make all-out efforts to further strengthen this noble endeavour.
Mayor Mr. Pardeep Chhabra, who was also present on the occasion said that he’ll appreciate if more & more such interanational exchange programmes are organsied at regular intervals.

Today, DAV Model School, Sector 15 hosted a lunch at Mountview for the delegates and later Tourism Department gave a dinner to visiting delegates at U.T. Guest House, in between the visitors also enjoyed the boating at Sukhna Lake.

After Chandigarh’s tour, Singapore delegates also intends to visit Agra and on way back in Delhi, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of State for Finance & Parliamentary Affairs had arranged a visit to Parliament & Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi for them.
