Forest Department to make available 40 lakh saplings under Hariyali Mahotsava

This year Forest Department will make available 40 lakh saplings under Hariyali Mahotsava to common people, Panchayats and other institutions. The saplings include sagon, aonla, neem, bamboo, jackfruit, shami, sissu, mahua, harra, bahera etc. Meanwhile, State Forest Research Institute has also made arrangements to supply saplings of Rudraksh and other rare species under Hariyali Mahotsava. The Forest Department will charge Rs 5 against supply of each sapling while the saplings of jatropha will be made available at the rate of only Rs 2 per sapling.

Chief Conservator of Forests Research and Extension Jabalpur circle Shri Ajit Shrivastava has informed that so far 18 lakh saplings have already booked by various institutions.

Shri Ajit Shrivastava said that the Forest Research Institute is committed to increase green cover in Jabalpur with the help of citizens. Maximum number of saplings will be made available during the rainy season under Hariyali Mahotsava, Vandoot and My City Green City schemes. Shri Shrivastava said that with a view to ensuring easy access to saplings, stalls will also be established at various points in Jabalpur including Sadar Bazar, Vijay Nagar, near Railway Station and Damoh Naka so that citizens can get saplings of their choice easily.
