PFUCTO HAILS PUNJAB GOVT. DECISION TO IMPLEMENT UGC PAY SCALES

Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (PFUCTO) hailed the decision of the Punjab Govt. taken today by Cabinet in its meeting held today to implement the revised UGC pay scales notified by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India on Dec 31, 2008. In a joint statement Dr. S.S. Dhillon and Dr. Jagwant Singh, President and General Secretary respectively of the Federation, thanked Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal for fulfilling promise made by him on Feb 13, 2009. According to the revised pay scales a newly recruited teacher will be placed in Pay-Band 3 of Rs.15600-39100 with Academic Grade Pay (AGP) of Rs.6000 after six years in the same pay-band he/she will move to AGP of Rs.7000 and after another five years will be entitled to AGP of Rs.8000. On completion of 3 years service with AGP of Rs.8000 teacher will move to Pay-Band 4 with AGP of Rs.9000. A Professor will be placed in Pay-Band 4 with AGP of Rs.10000. Similarly Principals of Colleges will be entitled to Pay-Band 4 with AGP of Rs.10000.
 
Giving the reaction of PFUCTO to the decision of the Cabinet that, "the decision, regarding allowances and other benefits referred to in the letter of MHRD, will be taken by a committee in a 'specified time'," Dr. Jagwant Singh, General Secretary of PFUCTO said that they hope that, "the Committee will take an appropriate decision at the earliest to bring uniformity in service conditions and allowances in accordance with the MHRD notification and keeping in view the growing importance of the Higher Education nationally and internationally for sustainable economic development."
