'Slumdog' star Rubina Ali writes memoir

16 June : From a tarpaulin hut in a Mumbai slum to the red carpet at the Oscars nine year old Slumdog child star Rubina Ali is chronicling her extraordinary journey in a memoir, which is expected to release in July.

Rubina's autobiography, 'Slumdog Dreaming: My Journey to the Stars', will be published by London-based publishers TransWorld and will be released in the UK and US on 16th July 2009, a website report quoted a statement from the publishers as saying.

"Ali tells her own incredible story from playing marbles with her friends beside the sewers of Garib Nagar in Mumbai to dancing along to the Bollywood films she and her family watch on their old television set," the statement said.

Rubina was plucked from the slums of Mumbai to star as young Latika in Danny Boyle's multiple Oscar-winning movie.The star was recently in news when she was left homeless after the civic authorities in Mumbai razed her shanty in a demolition drive.Rubina has since been offered two new homes by the Indian government and a trust set up by Slumdog's filmmakers for her and young co-star Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail.
